Cantonese lesson 3

Here are a few words in Cantonese that you don’t want to mix up yet the only difference between them is a tone.

touh ngoh in a flat low tone  =  hungry;

touh ngo in high falling tone  =  diarrhea;

maaih in low rising tone  =  to buy;

maaih in low flat tone  =  to sell;

suk jo in high flat tone  =  sour smell of food gone bad;

suhk jo in low flat tone  =  familiar with, close to;

behng in low flat tone  =  disease;

beng in high rising tone = cake.
